Structured Shoulder Tote Bag with Detachable Strap in Tan

I look at a lot of totes and most of them are a rectangle with handles. This one has actual shaping — the top edge dips in the centre and lifts at the sides, and there are curved seams running down the front panel that give it a waist. It’s a small amount of extra work at the pattern stage and it’s the reason the bag holds its shape when you set it down empty.

It’s a work bag, and I want to be plain about who it’s for. A 13-inch laptop lies flat inside with room for a folder and a lunch. If you commute from Jamaica into Manhattan and you’ve been carrying a tote that sags into your lap on the E, this is the fix. The zip top matters more than people expect on that ride.

This is a faux leather bag, not hide, and I’d rather say so here than leave you to work it out from a spec line. The finish is matte rather than shiny, which I prefer on a tan bag because it doesn’t pick up every light in a room. It also means it will show a scuff more readily than a glossy finish would. Wipe it with a dry cloth and don’t let it sit wet. The strap detaches if you want it as a shoulder bag only, and it clips back on in about two seconds.
